The differences between DVB-T and DVB-T2 are outlined in this Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-T2

There are two main differences: How the bits are modulated into an analog signal on air, and possibly how the payload is packed into a stream (even though I'd expect Idan+ to stay with TS).

So odds are that it's a matter of telling a DVB-T2 capable demodulator to work in DVB-T2 mode. Which probably boils down to a number of lines in the driver. Or maybe there's an issue with the userspace software.

In my case, a Astrometa DVB-T2 dongle, the issue is probably somewhere around the driver for the Panasonic MN88473 demodulator. So the note to self is looking for updates in its driver (named mn88473.ko, not suprisingly, in the staging directory, introduced to the kernel in September 2014). And indeed, there are a few patches, in particular from Feb 2016, saying "Finalize driver" and then it's moved out from staging. So maybe I'll patch it.

Or maybe I should try supplying it with firmware.

When I'll have time and motivation. :)

Thnx for the replay,
i understand the low motivation, how ever it is kinda future proofing, i am using a Raspberry pi 3 with tvheadend as a PVR and its realy handy (live channels and PVR).

a standalone box (DVB-T2 box)doessee thoe dvbt2 channels with the same atenna
so i am trying to understand the differnce
is it the drivers? hardware? or if i am lucky bad configurations

thnx eldadh

Hi,

I gave it a go, with no success. w_scan doesn't find anything on my machine, and attempting dvbv5_scan with DELIVERY_SYSTEM = DVBT2 gave me an error (ERROR command STREAM_ID (42) not found during store) which I'm not sure if it's problematic. But it said DELIVERY_SYSTEM = DVBT on the scan itself, so maybe there's a problem there.

Given the channels currently broadcast here on the DVB-T2 carriers, I don't have much motivation right now...

Hey,
great entry, i have a question though,
did you manage to get TVHEADEND with Idan+ with the new DVB-T2 broadcast, if so how?
i can see the new channels when using w_scan but not in tvheadend.
i am using MyGica T230C DVB-T2 usb adapter.

thnx in advance
